Award
Winning author, Lizzy Ford, is back with a fantastical novel, BLACK MOON DRAW,
where we find out what happens when a reader gets sucked into the novel she’s
reading.
Lizzy has stopped by for an interview:
* When did
you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
When I was
about nine years old. I’ve always known I had a calling, and I figured it out
at nine that it was to become a writer!
* What
would you say is your most interesting writing quirk?
I’m known
for a couple!
First, I
write super fast. When I’m not distracted by social media, I can write about
two novels a month (up to 200k words.) When distracted my social media/life, I
can write a novel in about three weeks!
Second, I
also work on multiple projects at once. So if I have time to write 100k words,
I’ll divide it among projects slated to be published and the projects I write
just for fun (that’ll probably never see the light of day haha!)
* Where do
you get your ideas or inspiration for your characters?
I don’t
really know. It’s hard to explain. I once wrote a post about how my process is
what I call intuitive writing, in that, I don’t dictate what I write, what
direction the story goes in, the characters, etc. I simply write, and wherever
the story goes, it goes. I do sometimes build characters around neat or intriguing
traits (both physical and intellectual) I find in people around me. Otherwise,
I just let the Muses do their work!
* What
books have most influenced your life?
Jane
Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice” taught me that flawed characters are better than
non-flawed ones. It’s a seemingly simple lesson, but up until then, I had this
weird fixation with creating the perfect character. After reading P&P I
realized I didn’t have to have perfect characters, that what makes them
relatable and strong are their faults.
* What do
you like to do when you are not writing?
I don’t
have a lot of down time. I travel with my husband whenever he goes to
conferences, so that’s always really cool. I play with my animals, hang out
with my sister and husband, watch cancelled TV series, go for walks.
* What is
your favorite comfort food?
I have a
weakness for bakery quality pastries, baked goods and chocolate. I love honey –
alone, in tea, on anything! I also love crockpot cooked meat, roasted
vegetables, anything my mom cooks … I’m a total foodie. I’m always up for
trying new foods and local cuisine when I travel!
* What do
you think makes a good story?
Relatable
characters. Most of the times, it’s the characters people love, though
sometimes, they fall in love with the worlds. I love reading epic fantasy,
because I love disappearing into a new world and learning all about it and how
it’s different.
* Who would
you consider your favorite author and why?
