Welcome to The Wormhole and my stop on the tour!
It is my pleasure to feature Dorine White and The Emerald Ring: book #1 of Cleopatra's Legacy.
My name is Dorine White. I am a children's author and a book reviewer. I grew up back East in Maryland and attended BYU in Utah. I have a BA in Humanities with an interest in Art History and French. Currently I live in the beautiful, yet rainy Northwest with my husband and 6 children.
My first book in The Cleopatra's Legacy series, The Emerald Ring, was published by Cedar Fort Books on May 14, 2013. It is a middle grade fantasy novel that involves Ancient Egypt, Cleopatra, and a magic emerald ring.
Dorine has stopped by for an interview:
? When
did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
I began writing when I was little. I used to make picture books
and glue the pages together to give to my mom and dad. As I got older I used
spiral notebooks to keep my stories in. Now that I’m an adult I am living my
childhood dream.
? How
many jobs did you have before you became a writer?
Well, I worked during college, but soon after graduation my
husband and I had our first child. 20 years and six kids later I am a happy
stay at home mom.
? How
long does it take you to write a book?
It usually takes me 6months. It is the editing that takes
forever.
? How do
you decide what you want to write about?
It has to be fantasy. I have a passion for all things magical
and that is what keeps the mojo following when I write.
? What
books have most influenced your life?
Different books at different stages have influenced me. When I
was a kid the two that come to mind are Mary Poppins and A Wrinkle in Time.
During High School Homer’s The Odyssey and Dante’s The Inferno were
amazing. I also have to say that I am a
spiritual person, and the scriptures have influenced me since my youth.
? What
do you like to do when you are not writing?
Mostly I’m reading, watching TV, napping and taking care of
kiddos.
? What
is your favorite comfort food?
Hmm, Chocolate is always nice.
? What
do you think makes a good story?
Personally, I love magic and quests.

My thoughts:
Wonderful middle grade adventure. This is a fast, entertaining read. I had no trouble getting into the story and liked the characters very much. I can see many of the students I know easily falling into this book and then impatiently awaiting the next in the series. The story is nicely paced and the characters are created in a way that readers will be able to invest quickly. I found myself comparing it to The 39 Clues series, which I enjoyed as well. I am sure that this series will be a huge hit.
