Welcome to The Wormhole and my day on the tour.
It is my pleasure to feature Mutiny and Jacqueline Gardner.
We have been lucky enough to have a guest post!

Guest Post 2 - Being Opposites

My husband and I are opposites.  He has blond hair and blue eyes, and I have black hair and brown eyes.  He can have hour long conversations with complete strangers, and I have a hard time opening up to people.  He's a total early bird, and I'm a die-hard night owl.  And the list goes on and on.

When the two of us first started dating, I would always come home thinking the same thing.  I really like him but we have absolutely nothing in common!  But after getting to know him better, I realized I was wrong.  Though opposites at first glance, we were actually a lot more alike than either of us had ever thought.  So much in fact that it didn't take long for us to start thinking the same things at the same time.

In my book MUTINY, Eric and Mariella (the two main characters) are complete opposites.  Eric is a soldier who thinks a lot like a computer.  He calculates probabilities and scenarios before making a choice, and he has been brought up to always follow orders.  Mariella is a rule-breaker.  She usually acts before she thinks, and she lets her emotions guide her decision making.

By the end of the book, Eric and Mariella discover that they are tied together in a way they never could have imagined.  Their personalities actually complement each other and they end up learning something new about themselves.  First impressions usually aren't correct.

Mutiny
M.E.R. series, #1

Book Blurb:

Eric's life aboard a top secret stealth submarine as a member of the government’s M.E.R. program has been about discipline, cunning and survival.

As both a soldier and a natural born regenerator, he can heal from any wound, but to stay alive he must accept a vein-burning serum that prevents his DNA from over-mutating. In exchange Eric must follow his Chief Commander’s every order. And never ask questions, no matter the assignment.

When he goes ashore on his first solo mission he runs into a complication he didn't expect; Mariella, the target’s daughter. She’s about to change everything.

Serial Date
By DV BeRkom

BLURB:

A retired assassin. A serial killer with a social agenda.

A politician with a fondness for free-range livestock.

Determined to leave her old life behind, retired assassin Leine Basso accepts a job working security at one of television's most popular reality shows, Serial Date. When a contestant is found dead in the prop closet, it appears the killer is one of the 'bachelors' on the show- an ex-con billed as a serial killer- but the detective in charge of the case isn't so sure.

Santiago Jensen, a homicide detective with a playboy reputation is assigned to the reality show murder case. There's instant attraction when he meets Leine Basso, but until they catch the murderer, he has to keep his distance.

When Leine's estranged daughter is abducted by a man claiming to be the real killer, she's forced to rely on old skills to find her, and must come to terms with who she really is. She soon realizes the murderer may be a grisly remnant from her past and she'll need to use all of her cunning to stop him and rescue her daughter.

...and now to feed your need to read...
EXCERPT:
SERIAL DATE

Chapter 1

Peter Bronkowski peeled himself away from the prop closet. He needed air. The onlookers parted to give him space.
Oh my God, oh my God, they're going to shut us down. When this gets out the motherfuckers are going to crucify me. All the hard work, the hustling, the endless lunches listening to that blowhard Senator Runyon, all of it would be for nothing. Peter shook his head to clear it. His breath came out in fast gasps, threatening to hyperventilate.
At first, Peter thought it was a grotesque looking mannequin with fake blood stains down the front and side of its torso. The moment reality clicked, a jolt of shock split him, pooled behind his eyes and slid to his gut. With dawning comprehension, Peter realized the blood was real. And it was no mannequin.
It was Mandy.
Peter turned back to the prop closet. Everyone stared at him, as if he had the slightest idea what to do now. Fuck. He couldn't see a way out of this. Too many people had seen the body. He thought of his brother, Edward, but brushed the idea away.
Mandy was dead. Murdered. Sweet, small-town-sexy Mandy. Who would want to kill her? Now Tina, yeah, he could sort of see that, she could be quite the bitch. But Mandy? And which one of the cons did it? No getting around it, he'd have to call LAPD. They'd be swarming all over the place. Better find another home for Edward. He wasn't going to like that one bit. Edward didn't do well with change.
Gene Dorfenberger walked toward him, pushing people out of his way.
"Give him some room! The man can't think with you crowding him like that." Reluctantly, the small crowd began to disperse, a few stealing one last look at the gruesome sight.
Gene glanced at Mandy's body and shook his head. "Now why would somebody go and cut off her arm?" He edged closer, squatting to take a better look. "And an ear? What kind of sick fuck would do that?"
Peter froze. "Her ear's missing?"
"Yeah."
Peter shook his head to clear it. It can't be. He took a deep breath to try to stop the dizziness. Everything was spiraling out of control.
Originally slated as low-cost filler for summer, Serial Date had turned into the most watched reality show on television. Less than a year and a half ago he couldn’t get the mailroom clerks to return his calls much less the now regular invitations to private parties and dinners with the network brass. They all wanted a piece and Peter had happily parlayed the lust for the extraordinary profits generated by the show into extra bargaining power.
This is it. It's over. We'll never recover.
"It's going to be rough. You're going to have to do some major damage control." Gene's sharp gaze traveled from the massive amount of blood soaked into the costumes scattered around Mandy back to Peter.
Peter nodded, his expression grim. "We've got to get somebody legit in here so the cops'll think we're taking steps to keep the contestants safe."
If Gene took offense at the comment, he didn't show it. "I think I know just the person. It'll take some doing, but I hear she's strapped for cash."
Peter looked at Gene with disbelief. "She? Gene, we need somebody who'll keep the fucking cops at bay, not another broad on the set."
Gene shook his head. "Oh, this one ain't just another broad, believe me."

* I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

Amazon Product Description:

Convinced she’s a part of the witness protection program, sixteen-year-old Jewel Rose is shuffled around the globe with her family like a pack of traveling gypsies. After arriving at lucky home twenty-seven, she stumbles upon a mysterious boy with magical powers claiming to be her guardian . . . and warning of imminent danger. Despite the obvious sparks between them, Jewel discovers a relationship is forbidden, and the more she learns about dark, brooding Roman, she begins to question who she can even believe — the family who raised her, or the supposed sworn protector who claims they’ve been lying to her all along.

As she struggles to uncover who her family has really been running from, she is forced to hide her birthmark that reveals who she is. With new realities surfacing, unexplained powers appearing, and two tempting boys vying for her heart, Jewel battles to learn who she can trust in an ever growing sea of lies, hoping she’ll make it through her seventeenth birthday alive.

My thoughts:
Wonderful characters, fast-paced, intriguing, engaging storyline, all around good read!!!
Shannon Duffy has created characters that you fall for instantly.  The "bad guys" are nasty and well developed.  The kind of antagonists that you love to hate! All the characters are given personalities that bring them to life in your mind as you read the story.  She sets them in a world that is constantly tilting for them, keeping them off-balance and running.  She has blended a magical, realistic world that is both fantastic and believable.  The plot is intriguing and the suspense is sustained to the end.  The romantic element is nicely done, keeping it teen while being meaningful, realistic and sweet.  The idea of family and what is means and symbolizes for the characters is a wonderful element in the story.
It's an all-around good read.  You don't want to miss this one.

Blog Tour: Spectral by Shannon Duffy

This blog tour is presented by Tribute Books.
You can see the entire tour schedule HERE.
My review will post on May 24, 2012 - - - this is a great read!
Welcome to The Wormhole and my day on the tour.
It is my pleasure to feature Shannon Duffy and Spectral.
Shannon Duffy has kindly stopped by to offer us a look inside the author with this interview.
It was great to get to know her and I am thrilled to share.

? How many jobs did you have before you became a writer?
Too many to count. From working as a babysitter, in clothing and makeup stores as a teen, to a nurse.

? How long does it take you to write a book?
It varies, but I need a good six months for sure or a little longer. I wouldn’t win any speed writing contests, that’s for sure.

? What would you say is your most interesting writing quirk?
I don’t know if it’s interesting, but I’m a crazy editing fool. I’ve never been an actual editor, so I don’t know why I’m so anal about it. Sometimes though, it’s hard for me to get even a paragraph down without going back over what I’ve written several times. I try to turn it off and have done it like…once. LOL To top it off, whatever I’ve written for the day, I send it to my iPhone to read and ponder over some more that night—thus why I probably wouldn’t win any speed records for writing a novel. But! At least when I’m done, I’ve got a pretty clean manuscript. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

? Where do you get your ideas or inspiration for your characters?
They mostly come to me at night when I can’t sleep, which is often. I have trouble shutting my mind off sometimes, but if the ideas keep rolling in that way, bring it on!

? How do you decide what you want to write about?
I like to write about something that I know I’d like to read. I wrote a middle grade story that I know I would have absolutely loved to read when I was a kid. I was all about reading Fantasy stories and pretending I was that character who could fly, time travel, talk to a spider…or whatever. As an adult, I love reading Paranormal Romance and Dystopian so that’s what I’m writing. If that changes, I’ll write something else.

? What are you reading right now?
Right now I’m reading the end of Cinder by Marissa Meyer and loving it. I also can’t wait for Insurgent by Veronica Roth to come out very soon. I usually have two or three books on the go at any given time.
? What do you like to do when you are not writing?
Other than hanging out with my family, I like to horseback ride, shop, go boating, and I love traveling.

? What is your favorite comfort food?
Anything carb related. Carbs are my nemesis, I swear. Popcorn or French fries would be good. Or popcorn and French fries.

? What do you think makes a good story?
Something that can hold my interest and make me connect with the main character. And for me, it has to have a happy ending or I’ll be very disappointed.

Fun random questions:
·        dogs or cats? Dogs, definitely dogs. I have two of them. A Yorkshire Terrier named Bambi and a German Sheppard named Skyla. Besides, my son and I are both allergic to cats so it’s an unfair contest. J
·        Coffee or tea? Easy. Coffee!! Chocolate raspberry flavor is my favorite.

·        Dark or milk chocolate? Milk chocolate for sure. I know the dark kind is better for you, but I prefer milk chocolate.
·        Rocks or flowers? Haha. Why flowers it is. Give me yellow roses and I’m a happy girl.
·        Night or day? Hmm. Well, day I think. I think of swimming, beaches, boating, sunny afternoons…but night can be fun, too.
·        Favorite color? Purple!
·        Crayons or markers?  Crayons. I don’t like the squeaking sound markers make. I’m sound sensitive to noises like that. LOL
·        Pens or pencils? Pens, blue ink.

Shannon Duffy's Bio:
Shannon Duffy writes young adult and middle grade fiction. She grew up on the beautiful east coast of Canada and now lives in Ontario, Canada. She is the mom of one boy, Gabriel, her angel. She loves writing, reading, working out, soccer, and the sport of champions-shopping. She is the author of the young adult paranormal romance, SPECTRAL. Her upcoming middle grade fantasy novel, GABRIEL STONE AND THE DIVINITY OF VALTA is scheduled for a January 2013 release.

Spectral Summary

Review: Her Man Flint by Jerri Drennen

Her Man Flint by Jerri Drennen

*I received this ebook in exchange for an honest review.

Amazon Product Description:
If James Bond and Cleopatra Jones had a daughter, Adriana Kent would kick her ass.

Everything Adriana knows about being a top-notch, undercover agent she's learned from her partner, Flint Morgan, in and out of the sheets. That is, until he's caught between those same bed linens with another woman. Heartbroken, Adriana refuses to forgive him. But when 'the other woman' is found dead in Flint's apartment, she steps up to prove his innocence--he might be a womanizer, but he's no killer.

As Adriana closes in on a suspect, she's kidnapped and sent overseas to a sadistic prince who collects women like priceless pieces of art. Now this tough as nails agent finds herself playing the helpless courtesan to a man hell-bent on breaking her spirit. Flint arrives in the nick of time, dressed as a harem girl, fighting off randy guards and surly camels to rescue Adriana so they can fly back to the states to find a way to exonerate him for murder.

My thoughts:
Her Man Flint is well-written, entertaining, easy to read and hard to put down.
It has an intriguing plot and characters that you can invest in.  Flint is that man we all look for, but aren't sure we really want to find.  Flint and Adriana's "relationship" is challenging because they are both either too proud or too stubborn to admit that they want to be together.  The author has also created bad guys that you truly love to hate.
This story takes the reader on a roller coaster ride of emotions, the twists and turns keeping the reader on the edge of the seat until it all comes to a somewhat predictable but heartwarming ending.
I enjoyed the entire story and hope to read more from Jerri Drennen.

This story has a little bit of a Harry Potter meets PC Cast feel.

I like the characters.  They are widely varied, believable and easy to get attached to.  The storyline is both entertaining and engaging.  The story reads well and flows smoothly.

This book is well written and I will be recommending it to the YA readers at the school where I work.  I can't wait for more in The Chronicles of Kerrigan.

Review: Just One Drop by Quinn Loftis

Just One Drop: Book three - Grey Wolves Series by Quinn Loftis

Amazon product description:
Jennifer Adams, best friend to Jacque Pierce and Sally Morgan, spicy, out spoken, a little crazy and human...or so she thought. Jen has just found out that human DNA is not the only thing that resides in her veins, she happens to share that little pesky werewolf gene, although it isn't more than just a drop. Now that she and her friends are living in Romania with Fane's pack, she is also oh so conveniently stuck with the object of her affection, the fur ball Decebel. Drawn to each other by something they don't understand Jen finds herself frustrated by the lack of mating signs between her and said fur ball. Not only is she dealing with that not so un-frustrating problem, she now has been informed that because of that little drop of werewolf blood in her she is now required to attended a multi-pack gathering for un-mated wolves. This type of gathering hasn't taken place in over a century but with a shortage of females among the werewolf population the males are getting worried they won't ever find their true mates. Meanwhile Decebel struggles with the emotions he is feeling towards Jen. He tries to keep his distance but there is just something about the mouthy blonde that keeps him coming back for more of her verbal abuse that he just can't seem to get enough of...go figure.

My thoughts:
This is one more fantastic installment in the Grey Wolves Series from Quinn Loftis.  I like it as much as I did books one and two and I am positive that I will like book four as much too.

Quinn Loftis has brought those fabulous characters, that I have already fallen in love with and completely invested in, back for another round.  This story is Jennifer and Decebel's.  I have been eager for them to have their own story since the beginning so I was thrilled when they did.

This story is wonderful.  The writing is smooth and paced well.  The word choices and story line are thoughtful, intriguing and entertaining.  Emotional rollercoaster - this one had me laughing out loud - Jennifer and Decebel's reactions and interactions are somehow both heartfelt and hilarious - and on the edge of my seat - wondering if they would figure out their feelings for each other and if when they did figure it out if it would be allowed by the pack.

In this story you will find romance, mystery, deception, betrayal, love, loss, laughter, tears, friendship, heartache, honor, desire, loyalty and what it means to be family.  Don't miss out on this series.

Review: Starring into the Eyes of Chance by Kay Dee Royal

Starring Into The Eyes of Chance by Kay Dee Royal

Amazon Product Description:
Olivia endures a thirty-four year passionless marriage, discovering her dead husband’s philandering history at his funeral. She devotes her energy and life-long sensitivity with animals to her wildlife refuge and preserve.

Chance, a Lycan alpha and leader of the Lycan International Investigation Agency (LIIA) throws himself into his investigations. He chooses to neglect his duty of finding a primal-mate after watching his father become an empty shell over the loss of his.
A murderous rogue pack draws Chance onto Olivia’s wildlife preserve, sending Olivia’s animal sensitivities into overdrive. Chance and Olivia discover a sizzling force driving them together.

Will they succumb to its enticing tether, or fight to resume their loveless lives apart?

My thoughts:
This is a different shifter book than what I normally read.  I enjoyed the characters and the story very much, but there was a sexual element that was both unexpected and a little over the top for me.
Olivia is a fantastic character.  She runs a wildlife preserve and has a sensitivity to animals which allows her to feel their emotions.  The fact that the main character is in her fifties was great, I think that will appeal to many readers.  She is strong and independent, liking the person that she is and the life that she has created for herself.
Chance is a wonderful character too.  He is what we all think of when we picture an Alpha; strong, attractive, sensitive, caring, protective.  The supporting characters too are easy to invest in and get attached to.
The story is well-written and well-paced.  The story was entertaining, although in my opinion, could have had less forced, degrading sexual experiences - - - I will however be looking for the next book in the series because I like the characters and can't wait to see where they go from here.
I liked the ending, but was hoping for more about Trevor and Lindsey - perhaps they will be the next book.

Welcome to The Wormhole and my day on the tour.
I am pleased to present Lynn Rush and Awaited.
About Lynn Rush:
Driven to write, Lynn Rush often sees her characters by closing her eyes watching their story unfold in her mind. Lynn Rush is a pen name that is a combination of two sources - Lynn, the first name of her mother-in-law, who passed away and Rush - since the author is a former inline speed skater and mountain biker. All of Rush's books are dedicated to Lynn, her namesake.
Rush holds a degree in psychology from Southwest Minnesota State University and a master's degree from the University of Iowa. Originally from Minneapolis, Rush currently enjoys living in the Arizona sunshine by road biking nearly 100 miles per week with her husband of 15 years and jogging with her two loveable Shetland Sheep dogs.

She has joined us today for this interview:
? How many jobs did you have before you became a writer?
Including my college life? LOL. I was a waitress throughout college to make money, but after that I was a Mental Health Therapist, then an Escrow Officer and now I work part time at a bookstore. So, I’d have to say three. J

? How long does it take you to write a book?
It really depends on my circumstances and how freely the words are flowing. On average, I can produce a 75,000-word first draft in about two to three weeks.

? What would you say is your most interesting writing quirk?
What a fun question. I’d have to say I love to write while nibbling on malted milk balls! Not Whoppers, mind you, but the gourmet ones from Sprouts that have about a half-inch of chocolate around the malted center. Okay, not a half-inch…but close!!

? Where do you get your ideas or inspiration for your characters?
Anywhere and everywhere. I wake up with them, they slam into me while I’m exercising, or while out doing random things like grocery shopping or hanging out at a coffee shop. The key is to be open to them whenever and wherever. You just never know what you’re going to see, hear, or experience that might trigger an idea.

? How do you decide what you want to write about?
I don’t, really. If I get a story in my head, it has to be written or I get a little…nuts. That’s why I like this quote so much:  “If I don’t write to empty my mind, I go Mad.” ~Lord Byron

? What books have most influenced your life?
Frank Peretti’s This Present Darkness. Love how he described his demons!

? What are you reading right now?
At the time I’m typing the answers to this interview, I am between books. But I just finished Descended by Blood, by Angeline Kace. I really enjoyed it.

? What is your favorite comfort food?
Macaroni and Cheese (Kraft from the blue box!) and Malted Milk Balls. J

? What do you think makes a good story?
Characters. I just love them!! I’ll overlook minor plot issues and typos if I’m really engrossed in a character any day.

? Who would you consider your favorite author and why?
This is a toughie because it changes as I find new authors, but there are staples and they include Richelle Mead, Rebecca Zanetti, Gena Showalter and PC Cast. They all create such strong characters I’m usually vested in them immediately. J

Fun random questions:
  • dogs or cats? Dogs
  • Coffee or tea? Tea
  • Dark or milk chocolate? Dark—ohhhhh—TIE, I love them both
  • Rocks or flowers? Flowers
  • Night or day? Day
  • Favorite color? Blue (right now)
  • Crayons or markers? Markers
  • Pens or pencils? Pencils
Thanks for having me here! This was GREAT fun!!

The only obstacle—Jessica’s distractingly beautiful Guardian, Rebeka Abbott. He must not give in to their steamy chemistry, or he will lose his humanity.
