Romance in the Wintertime
By Laura Kaye
Thanks for having me here today! I’m one of nine authors celebrating their books as part of the Kiss and Tell Tour. Today, I’m celebrating my November release, North of Need, a fantasy romance based on Greek Mythology, by talking about wintertime romance.
If North of Need hero Owen Winters taught me anything, it was that wintertime can be filled with romance. Owen builds heroine Megan Snow an igloo, has picnics with her inside it, takes her on a playful date to a ski resort where they race one another and warm each other up all day long, and most romantically, shares his elemental power with her when he transforms her into the wind with him and takes her flying. Now, some of that us human types can’t do on our own *grins*, but, still, Owen inspired me think about how to make winter romantic. Here’s what I came up with:
An overnight date or weekend away at a cabin. Nothing says romantic winter getaway like a cabin in the mountains. Fire roaring, bottle of wine, cuddling and snuggling against the cold, snowy weather outdoors. That’s definitely romantic.
Christmas movie marathon. Share a blanket and a bowl of popcorn, or make smores over a living room fire, and snuggle up together on the couch to watch classics like Miracle on 34th Street, It’s a Wonderful Life, or A Christmas Story. Who can say what will happen under that blanket? *winks*
Go iceskating. Even if you’re not good at it, it’ll have you laughing, hanging on one another, and needing someone to warm up with later. If you fall, you’ll likely fall on each other, and what better way to arrange a little public canoodling?
Go to a tree-lighting ceremony. Little is more magical in the wintertime than the lighting of a Christmas tree. Warm your hands over a toasty bonfire, enjoy the Christmas carols, and snuggle into the arms of the one you love all while taking in the wonderful, heartwarming spirit of the season.
Get dressed up for New Years Eve. Even if you stay at home, you can dance in the privacy of your living room, share a special dinner, and ring in midnight…together. If you go out on the town, dinner, dancing, champagne, and festivities will make for a romantic night you can finish off at home or in a hotel room.
Be kids together. Build a snowman, have a snowball fight, make snow angels, go sledding, or go for a walk on a snowy day. Bringing out your inner child can lead to special memories that can’t help but be filled with winter romance.
Get a massage together. What better way to relax and warm up together than with a couple’s massage? It’s the perfect winter treat!
Take a sleigh ride. Not every community has these of course, but if you do, they make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time as you cuddle under a blanket together, take in the winter sights, and enjoy the jingle of sleigh bells.
What’s your favorite winter date or way to keep warm with the one you love when it’s cold outside?
Thanks for reading! And happy holidays!

North of Need by Laura Kaye
Her tears called a powerful snow god to life, but only her love can grant the humanity he craves...
Desperate to escape agonizing memories of Christmas past, twenty-nine-year-old widow Megan Snow builds a snow family outside the mountain cabin she once shared with her husband, realizing too late that she's recreated the very thing she'll never have.
Called to life by Megan's tears, snow god Owen Winters appears unconscious on her doorstep in the midst of a raging blizzard. As she nurses him to health, Owen finds unexpected solace in her company and unimagined pleasure in the warmth of her body, and vows to win her heart for a chance at humanity.
Megan is drawn to Owen's mismatched eyes, otherworldly masculinity, and enthusiasm for the littlest things. But this Christmas miracle comes with an expiration--before the snow melts and the temperature rises, Megan must let go of her widow's grief and learn to trust love again, or she'll lose Owen forever.

Thanks so much for hosting me here today!
Years ago I read a Harlequin title that had a couple take a dip in a heated outdoor swimming pool, that was surrounded by snow drifts & a light dusting of snow was falling. It sounded so romantic to be playing in warm water, while everything around you is coated in a thick blanket of snow.

I love this post. I love the winter and cold weather so this is perfect date time for me. My favorite is the cuddle up in front of the fire with wine and cheese.
Thank you so much.

I think you about covered all the romantic ideas that I can think of, but there is one other thing we enjoy. My husband likes it when we cuddle under the blankets and I read aloud to him. This generally leads to more than cuddling. *smiles*
Thanks for the posting!

I don't really like the winter and cold weather but these winter romantic dates seem great. Especially a weekend away at a cabin. But I think the best way to keep warm with the one you love when it’s cold outside is a hot bath.
Thank you for the giveaway!

I enjoyed the post; it was a great read.
I like to cuddle in front of a roaring fire place, with a glass of wine or eggnog!
Thanks,

Your comments are great guys--I'm really enjoying, and I'm glad you like these ideas! :)
Some lovely romantic Winter ideas thank you. Even just a stroll through a park with all it's stark beauty can be amazing.

Hi Laura...I haven't really read much in the way of paranormal romance. I'm more a non-fiction reader...but I'd like to read North of Need.
Thanks for the tour & giveaway.
