Chameleon by Kelly Oram (author giveaway)

This blog tour is presented by Kelly Oram.

Welcome to The Wormhole and my stop on the tour.
It is my pleasure to feature: Kelly Oram and Chameleon.

Kelly Oram wrote her first novel at age fifteen–a fan fiction about her favorite music group, The Backstreet Boys, for which family and friends still tease her. She's obsessed with reading, talks way too much, and loves to eat frosting by the spoonful. She lives outside of Phoenix, Arizona with her husband and four children.

Chameleon
For small-town rebel Dani Webber magic and monsters are no more real than the Easter Bunny… until the day she accidentally stops time. Dani quickly discovers that not only do supernaturals exist, but she herself is one of them. This is great news for her life-long best friend Russ, who can finally come clean about his own supernatural status and his undying love for her. Before the two can start to enjoy the long overdue relationship, Dani is taken by a powerful council of supernaturals who believe she is the Chosen One destined to save them from extinction.

As if being kidnapped and expected to save the world isn’t bad enough, an ancient prophecy warns of the Chosen One’s dark nature: “Only the truest love will keep her an agent for good.” The council believes they know who this “true love” is and, unfortunately, that person isn’t Russ. The mysterious, powerful and devastatingly handsome Seer is the last person Dani wants in her life, but when she starts having visions of a horrific future, she has no one else to turn to for help.

Soon Dani finds herself torn between two very different boys with two very different opinions of whom she can trust. With the visions getting worse and time running out, Dani is forced to put aside her feelings and work with both the Seer and Russ before an ancient evil is unleashed upon the earth.

My Thoughts:
Fantastic story.  Wonderfully paced and well written.  Original and fascinating, mysterious and gripping.  The characters are incredible.  Dani is great, I love her snarkiness and Russ is a dream - of course there can't only be one amazing guy - you must read it!

Blog Tour: Out of Control by Stephanie Feagan (author giveaway)

This virtual book tour is presented by Entangled Publishing
Welcome to The Wormhole and my stop on the tour.
It is my pleasure to feature:
Stephanie Feagan and Out of Control.

Stephanie has joined us for an interview:
* When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
When I was 16 and discovered romance novels. I never looked back.

* How many jobs did you have before you became a writer?
None, really, because I started writing when I was 16, but I didn’t get serious about it until many years later. I worked in retail – clothing and a greenhouse nursery – worked for a daycare, was a camp counselor, college campus cop, bank teller, Christmas tree salesperson/decorator, department store gift wrapper, bookkeeper, CPA, mom, and wife. Then I became serious about pursuing publication.

* What would you say is your most interesting writing quirk?
I write better with flowers. I buy a bunch of roses at the grocery store once a week. If the roses are bad and I have to buy some other kind, or worse, don’t have any flowers at all, my writing suffers.

* Where do you get your ideas or inspiration for your characters?
Several secondary characters in various books are based on my family members. We have some real interesting folks in our gene pool!

* How do you decide what you want to write about?
I have no idea. It always starts with a tiny thought, What if--? And it grows. Sometimes, I dream characters and plots.

* What books have most influenced your life?
Jane Eyre. It’s the ultimate romance, and one I reread every five years or so.

* What are you reading right now?
Nothing at the moment. I just finished a manuscript, so I’m still in the hangover stage, unable to read anything until I lose the fog. I’m anxious to start Lorraine Heath’s latest, which is patiently waiting for me on my Nook.

* What do you like to do when you are not writing?
Read, cook, and rewatch old rom-coms, like Moonstruck and You’ve Got Mail.

* What is your favorite comfort food?
My mama’s chicken and dumplings. They are sublime!

* What do you think makes a good story?
A character who faces tremendous odds, who it appears will fail, who I can root for and be scared for and fall in love right along with them.

* Who would you consider your favorite author and why?
My favorite is usually whomever’s book I just read. I’m a total book junkie and it’s very hard for me to not like a book – any book.

Fun random questions:
• dogs or cats?  Cats!
• Coffee or tea?  Coffee.
• Dark or milk chocolate?  Dark!
• Rocks or flowers?  Flowers, for sure.
• Night or day?  Total night owl.
• Favorite color?  Pink.
• Crayons or markers?  Markers.
• Pens or pencils?  Pencils – I’m a CPA. J

Thanks so much for having me here!

More about Stephanie:
Author of the RITA winning Pink Files series, Stephanie Feagan has had a love affair with romance novels since she was eleven and discovered there are kissing scenes in Victoria Holt books. She spent a lot of time in her closet with a flashlight, reading as fast as possible to get to the end, only to start a new book and begin the whole Leave-Me-Alone-I’m-Reading cycle all over again. She still stays up until the wee hours to finish books, now courtesy of a lighted e-reader which she believes is mankind’s greatest invention ever.
Stephanie also writes Young Adult and New Adult paranormal romance as Trinity Faegen. A practicing CPA who loves travel, books, new pencils, old keys, and smart guys, she lives in the oilfields of west Texas with her engineer husband and a mean cat. She’d love to hear from you. She answers to Stephanie, Trinity, Hey Lady, and Mom, and can be reached at Stephanie@StephanieFeagan.com or Trinity@TrinityFaegen.com
She’s aware the similarity between her pseudonym, Faegen, and her real name, Feagan, confuses pretty much everyone, herself included. Since so many mispronounce Feagan as FEEgan instead of FAYgan, she thought she’d mix it up when she took a pseudonym and make it easier on people. Now people say FayEEgen, and spell it wrong. Next time she takes a pen name, she’s totally going with Smith or Jones.

My thoughts:
This was my first Stephanie Feagan read - and I LOVED it!  Found myself lost in the book from the first page.  I lost all track of time as I turned the pages of this fast-paced, action-packed, suspenseful romance.
The characters are robust and engaging.  The storyline is original, interesting and entertaining.  The plot is mysterious and thoughtfully created.  The romance is both hot and sweet.
I found myself occasionally laughing out loud as well as smiling and sighing because the characters are so great.
Well worth the read.

Blog Tour: I'll Be Damned by Casey Keen ~ tourwide giveaway too!

This virtual book tour is presented by Bewitching Book Tours.
Welcome to The Wormhole and my stop on the tour.
It is my pleasure to feature Casey Keen and I'll Be Damned.

Casey has stopped by for an interview:
? How many jobs did you have before you became a writer?
I had four and I am currently working now!

? How long does it take you to write a book?
For I’ll Be Damned, it took me a year to write it due to the number of breaks I took here and there!

? Do you have a routine that you use to get into the right frame of mind to write?
I wouldn’t call it a routine, but I have noticed that I am more creative and sharper about an hour after I wake up. Coffee in hand, I sit at my desk and type away.

? Where do you get your ideas or inspiration for your characters?
My characters inspiration came from myself and friends/family. Rather than “assign” a character to one specific person in my life, I took bits and pieces of everyone (including myself) and mushed them all together, creating one of the characters.

? How do you decide what you want to write about?
I visit Savannah/Hilton head every year and thought Savannah would be the perfect setting for a paranormal book. This charming city dug itself a hole in my heart and I knew I needed to start here. Since I LOVE coffee, I decided that the main character should be a coffee shop owner. From there, ideas piled in my head - What should she be? What needs to happen? But for these developments, there wasn’t a clear starting point. Once I settled on the setting, everything else fell into place.

? What is the first book you remember reading by yourself?
To Kill a Mockingbird… I think. It was the first “real” book that popped into my head and I
had to read it for a school book report!

? What are you reading right now?
Rose Pressey, Ghouls Night Out

? What do you like to do when you are not writing?
I like to read, scrapbook and spend time with family and friends

? What is your favorite comfort food?
Chicken, mashed potatoes and cornbread… especially cornbread.  Did I mention cornbread?

? What do you think makes a good story?
I think a good story is when the reader gets lost in it - it becomes their life for the duration of reading. From my own experience, I know when I’m totally enveloped in the plot and can relate to at least one character, I’m hooked. If I pause or end the book and feel how the characters felt… that’s one talented author.

Excerpt:
It happens practically every night. My pleasant dreams take on a life of their own, morphing into terrifying nightmares. They are the tsunamis of the dream ocean, spinning me in their churning tides before thrusting me awake, whereupon I find myself drenched in a pool of sweat, and gasping for air. Abandoning my worry isn’t an option since a demonic element is the driving force behind them. It sounds crazy, but even as a child, a special darkness visited me in my dreams. Is it a warning? Or a threat? Your guess is as good as mine.
They always began the exact same way - I'm being hurled into a pitch-black hole of nothingness. I open my sleepy eyes, allowing them time to adjust. Isolation surrounds me, reminding me how unprepared I am for this place. A dim, orange light cuts through the dark abyss like a blade. I squint, realizing it’s much further than it appears. I attempt to move my feet, but they stubbornly refuse. I try a second time, and manage to overcome the terror that is binding them. One step becomes two and I find myself walking at a cautious pace, listening for the faintest sound. I haven’t the slightest idea where I am, which makes me suspicious of everything. My nose wrinkles as I walk through a large pocket of air that reeks with an overpowering odor of burnt hair. I swing and wave my hands, hoping to break up the stench, but to no avail. What could be the source of such a rank smell? I’m not sure I want to know the answer. I quickly push the thought away. Curiosity can be dangerous when it comes between reality and panic.
I tread delicately, hoping no one hears me. I don’t think I'm alone, and I find some comfort in the darkness. Whatever is with me is out of my sight, and therefore, out of my mind. I never thought I would find a cliché so helpful to me until now. I wrap my thoughts around it, mustering up the courage to carry on. The orange light grows, compelling me to pick up my pace. I glance at my surroundings, unsure of what I might find. The curved, dank walls and concrete blocks beneath my feet are bare, but fortunately, no revolting creatures dangle from the ceiling or slither past my feet, although I am thinking of them! Where the hell am I? Dreams have a funny way of camouflaging life’s problems, but this is ridiculous!
A glint of light from the ashen wall catches my eye. I step closer to it, noticing how the curved cobbles gently mold my feet to their shapes. Small, rectangular stones that suggest their age goes well beyond the medieval era are arrayed in front of me. A dense tackiness catches the small granules of little dust motes that are reflected by the light here. Some kind of liquid begins to seep from one of the cracks in the stones, and I lower my head to inspect it. The crimson liquid slides sluggishly, like a snail, towards the ground. Leaning closer, I realize I’m staring at blood, and I gasp, jumping backwards. My heart thuds loudly in my chest as my adrenaline speeds through my veins like a racecar. My eyes skip around, noticing thousands of little red capillaries materializing all over the wall. An overwhelming paranoia that the tunnel will cave in torments my mind. I turn and dash towards the light, fueled by my distress. My lungs scream for air as I push myself further and faster than ever.

The orange light surrounds a large opening. Skidding to a stop, I barely avoid falling over the ledge at the cave’s entrance. I stare out at a fiery, scarlet landscape that appears infinite, and sends me a menacing warning. I lean forward when a wall of intense heat slugs me in the face, forcing me backwards a few inches. The air is dense, and it’s hard to catch my breath. Sweat beads on my brow, evaporating before I can wipe it away. I scan the ravaged scenery, watching pillars of fire erupt from the ground before disappearing into the onyx sky, rimmed in red. A chain of mountains with jagged cliffs, emerge straight up from the bloodshot dirt. Floating objects I don’t wish to know about, travel in an orbit, weaving in and out through the rough terrain. I’m in a completely different world. My terror lingers, refusing to go away. A raging river of lava slices through the valley, determined to leave its own mark in the middle of this inferno. I stroll down a steep trail that leads directly to the unusual river. I stop long before reaching its banks, and gradually inch my way closer. My eyes drift over to the whirling mass of disturbing beauty. Deep shades of red and orange mesh with each other, creating a horrid kaleidoscope of angry colors. Flashes of distorted images of my family and friends bob in and out of the blazing lava. I watch in horror as the greedy river of fire consumes them without remorse. Despite my attempts to reach in, my hand snaps back after feeling the agonizing heat. I step backwards, staring in numb bewilderment. I know I’m dreaming, but it doesn’t lessen my anxiety. My back slams into something solid and unyielding. Long, crooked fingers wrap around the tops of my tiny shoulders like spiders. Suffering and emptiness engulf me. My heart pounds like a hammer as my limbs melt into rubber. The hands squeeze me hard, sending excruciating pain throughout my entire back. The snapping of my shoulders, cracking like glass, shatters the unbearable stillness.

Review: Fatal Justice by Marie Force

Fatal Justice by Marie Force

Jacket blurb:
Standing over the body of a Supreme Court nominee, Lieutenant Sam Holland is hip-deep in another high-profile murder case. The fact that she was one of the last people to see Julian Sinclair alive only complicates matters even further. On the plus side, her relationship with Senator Nick Cappuano is heating up - but it's also attracting a lot of unwanted attention and blinding flashbulbs.

The pressure is on for Sam to find Sinclair's killer, but a new lead in her father's unsolved shooting puts her in unexpected danger. When long-buried secrets threaten to derail her relationship with Nick, Sam realizes that while justice can be blind, mixing romance with politics has the potential to be fatal...

My Thoughts:
I picked this book up at the Harlequin booth at ALA in Chicago on Friday, I am writing this EARLY in the morning on Sunday.  I even stopped back at the booth on Saturday to let them know how much I was enjoying the read.

This is a non-stop action thriller with suspense, mystery, over-the-top romance, political intrigue, and the whole gambit of emotions that go along with all that rolled into one genuinely appealing story.

Her characters are wonderful.  They are all so real and yet so perfect for the roles that they are given in the book, almost too good to be true in some ways.  Every character appears to have been created with tremendous thought and careful planning.

The storyline is believable and the plot is incredibly well done, but the idea behind it is truly sad as a reality in our world.  Loved the romance - mutiple romances going on in varying stages on various levels - and they all find their way straight to that spot in our hearts that make us sigh.

I have never read Marie Force before and was thrilled to find her book. I will be getting book one in this series in hopes that I will one day finish the rest of the books from ALA so I can read more from Marie Force.

Untimed By Andy Gavin
Charlie's the kind of boy that no one notices. Hell, his own mother can't remember his name. So when a mysterious clockwork man tries to kill him in modern day Philadelphia, and they tumble through a hole into 1725 London, Charlie realizes even the laws of time don't take him seriously. Still, this isn't all bad. Who needs school when you can learn about history first hand, like from Ben Franklin himself. And there's this girl... Yvaine... another time traveler. All good. Except for the rules: boys only travel into the past and girls only into the future. And the baggage: Yvaine's got a baby boy and more than her share of ex-boyfriends. Still, even if they screw up history -- like accidentally let the founding father be killed -- they can just time travel and fix it, right? But the future they return to is nothing like Charlie remembers. To set things right, he and his scrappy new girlfriend will have to race across the centuries, battling murderous machines from the future, jealous lovers, reluctant parents, and time itself.

My thoughts:
This book is a little bit of everything rolled into one wonderfully written story filled with a host of creative characters - not all of whom you will fall in love with.  I enjoyed the combination of genres in this tale; you get history, romance, mystery, science fiction - time travel, fantasy, adventure and steampunk - - - all working really well together.
In this story we follow Charlie as he learns about time travelers, Tocks, decision making, taking responsibility, falling in love and becoming a grown up.
The characters are interesting, the story line is original and the plot is twisting and entertaining.  I was thrilled with the way things worked out - or sort of worked out - and can't wait until the next book.
(I received this book in exchange for an honest review).

The Blue Line Bone Collector: Chicago Serial Crimes, book 2 by Kristi Loucks
Devon Cole was not prepared for the call that came in the middle of the night. And no one was ready for the wake of bodies that surface in the days that follow an attack on Molly Shaw. Dakota's twenty-three year old friend and co-worker who unknowingly survived an attack by a killer dubbed The Blue Line Bone Collector. What follows is a dark and twisted tale with an origin that pre-dates a killers existence.

Author: Kristi Loucks is a Pastry Chef and Cake Designer with a degree from Le Cordon Bleu Chicago. Her writing and storytelling has always been a way to manage the day to day stresses of working in the world of restaurants and food service. Kristi is currently hard at work on her Chicago Serial Crimes Series! Ms. Loucks currently resides in a suburb of Chicago.

Excerpt from Book Two of the Chicago Serial Crimes Series, The Blue Line Bone Collector:
It had been unseasonably warm for early February in Chicago, but at two o’clock in the morning, the streets were still relatively quiet in Logan Square. Having lived in the city most of her life, Molly Shaw was no stranger to public transportation and she was always aware of what was happening around her.

She had just moved through the turnstile at the “El” station and she was headed towards the steps to the platform, when she noticed a tall thin man lurking in the shadows at the top of the landing. Her instincts put her on edge as she tried to get a read on him before ultimately turning back towards the street behind her. She could feel the rumble of the “El” as it coasted into the station above them, and she prayed that the man would be lured towards the train.

As she made it back to the turnstiles, she chanced a look back in the direction of the stairs. When she didn’t see the man, she breathed a sigh of relief while she berated herself for her evident paranoia. Her relief was short lived. When she turned back toward the exit, Molly caught a glimpse of the man as he reached out from her right side.

She gasped as she saw the glint of a steel blade and tried to scream as his hand clamped over her mouth, just before the blade tore through her skin.

“Such lovely bone structure,” he whispered, staring at the blood that coated her skin and running his thumb over the bones of her wrist.

Molly was fixated on the blood that ran in thin rivulets across the veins protruding from the back on her hand. That was when she noticed the markings that covered the hand of the man who held her captive.

Though she was spared further contemplation of those markings when pain shot through her system. Molly cried out behind his hand, which reeked of bleach and cigarettes, as she heard the sickening crackle and pop of bone and ligaments when he savagely wrenched her arm back at an awkward angle. In an instant, her survival instincts kicked into high gear, briefly drowning out the pain.

She fought hard as he pulled her back towards the shadows from which he’d emerged, slamming her forehead against the rail as she struggled against him. She could feel the warmth of her blood as it ran down her temple. She frantically dug through her bag, which hung to her left side, looking for anything that would give her a moment’s advantage.

Her fingers finally gripped her salvation, a tiny bottle of pepper spray that Devon had given her a few weeks back. She’d thought it was ridiculous at the time, but if she got out of this, she was certain she would kiss him for his part in her escape.

She quickly slammed her eyes shut as she sent a burst of the pepper spray over her right shoulder in the direction of her attacker, feeling the burn against her own skin as well.

The moment she felt his fingers open slightly, she bit down as hard as she could on the hand covering her mouth and flung her head back towards his face. He fell backwards as her skull connected with his and she quickly flung herself towards the turnstiles and out towards the street in the hopes that a car or a taxi might stop for her. Her only hope was that the man wouldn’t pursue her with witnesses.
