Title: Black Oil, Red Blood

Author: Diane Castle
Genre(s): Murder Mystery, Legal Thriller
Published: 2012 by Wishlist Publishing

Book Synopsis: The thing about cancer is it’s hard to prove somebody gave it to you on purpose—but Chloe Taylor can prove it. In fact, she proves it for a living. She sues oil refineries that would rather save a buck than comply with safety regulations designed to do important things like, you know, keep people alive. Chloe had a successful career until circumstances forced her to move to the bass-ackwards town of Kettle, Texas (human population: 4,000; gun population: 34,356). Big Oil industry giant PetroPlex employs half of Kettle’s population, and there’s no question the judge in the town’s got oil stains on his hands. It’s no wonder she’s been on a losing streak lately. She suspects she’s been litigating on an uneven playing field, but when her star expert witness turns up dead less than 48 hours before a make-or
break hearing, she knows.

What she doesn’t know is the key piece of information that got her expert killed. It turns out PetroPlex is harboring a shocking secret—one that has the potential to skyrocket gasoline prices, spark an energy market meltdown, and trigger riots, chaos, death, and destruction on a global scale. Chloe must discover the secret and expose the villains before she is permanently silenced, all while juggling a troublesome ex-fiancĂ© and a tantalizing new flame along the way.

Excerpt:
I didn’t even know how to use a gun before yesterday, and I certainly hadn’t become a crack shot overnight. That didn’t bode well for my chances of survival at the moment — especially since I was currently staring down the wrong end of somebody else’s barrel. What was I supposed to do? Duck? Shoot first? Run?

Maybe the decision would have been easier if I hadn’t loved the guy pointing the gun at me. I watched his trigger finger tense as the smoky, toxic air around us seemed to grow even thicker. Walls shook and the floor rolled beneath me as an explosion thundered through the building. The PetroPlex flagship oil refinery was fast on its way to becoming nothing but a memory.

The doorframe buckled before my eyes—my only means of escape. Sharp orange tongues of flame lapped at me from above, sending down a rain of fiery particles as acoustic ceiling tiles disintegrated overhead.

That’s when I knew that gun or no gun, I was going to die.

Blood Storm by Amber Kallyn (Giveaways too!)

This virtual book tour is presented by Bewitching Book Tours.
You can see the entire tour schedule by clicking HERE.
Welcome to The Wormhole and my day on the tour!
It is my pleasure to feature
Amber Kallyn and her book BloodStorm!

About the Author:

One of those rare breeds, Amber Kallyn is an Arizona native who can trace her family's history through six generations in the state. She lives with her sexy husband, and their four very active children. Included in the menagerie are two cats (though there's always room for more) and two dogs. We won't count all the fish. She also writes urban fantasy under the name Higley Browne.

Amber loves the paranormal, from dragons to werewolves to vampires. She's currently at work on her next book, probably running around the house acting out a fight scene with her collection of swords and daggers. Or maybe, wishing she had claws to practice the other fight scenes.
A voracious lover of the written word, Amber found at an early age that she could read fast. Really fast. She devours novels by the day, novellas by the hour, and is always looking to get her hands on more.

Please welcome Amber who has graciously stopped by for an interview!
When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

I’m one of the clichĂ©’s as I’ve been writing ever since I can remember. But it wasn’t until a few years ago I realized that just maybe, I could do this as a job. That realization changed my whole life and writing became a much bigger part of it.

How many jobs did you have before you became a writer?

Um, a lot?  My first job was at a Sonic Drive-in as a car hop (the people who bring your food out to you on roller skates). It was also my second and third job as I moved a few times through Arizona. After that, I got into fixing computers. In fact, I was planning to get my college degree in technology. My biggest job is being a mom to my four kidlets, which I adore.

How long does it take you to write a book?

From start to finish a few months for a novella, and six or more for a full-length novel. I start with a skimpy outline with a sentence or two of what happens in each chapter, then I write from start to finish. After that, is the editing, which takes the most time for me. I’m happy to have found a process that works well for me :)

Where do you get your ideas or inspiration for your characters?

I blame all of it on my muse. She’s a sneaky thing, not pouncing on ideas until they’ve had a while to ferment in my mind. But when they’re ready, she throws the characters at me--and they’re strong enough to demand I write them.

How do you decide what you want to write about?

When I’m working on a series, it’s easy. Otherwise, I just choose the character who’s threatening me the most :)

What books have most influenced your life?

I’m a mutt when it comes to reading. I grew up on a mix of Stephen King, Johanna Lindsey, Mary Higgins Clark as well as fantasy and sci-fi writers. As I grew older, the romance turned to the paranormal, and took off from there. I love to read, and I’m very fast, so I can read a novel in a day (just in my free time).

What is the first book you remember reading by yourself?

Dr. Seuss, Green Eggs and Ham. That story still has a special place in my heart.

What are your reading right now?

Anything I can get my hands on (or into my ereader), LOL.

What is your favorite comfort food?

Macaroni and cheese, mixed with diced spicy Kielbasa sausage. It’s warm, filling, and something I can make with my kids.

What do you think makes a good story?

Characters that I can fall in love with and ‘feel’ emotional about.

Who would you consider your favorite author and why?

Definitely Stephen King. I love his stories. He can take a cast of 500 and make you care about every single character. His stories touch me on so many levels.

What book do you read over and over again?

My bookshelves house hundreds of books, all of which I’ve read many, many times. But out of all of them, I’d have to stick with ‘The Stand’ by Stephen King. That story is so believable and the characters so awesome. It still gives me the creeps.

Fun Random Questions:
Dogs or cats? Cats :)
Coffee or tea? In the morning, coffee. Tea later in the day.
Dark or Milk chocolate? Milk. I save the dark for special nibbling occasions.
Rocks or flowers? Hard one. I collect rocks, but I’d have to say flowers.
Night or day? Let me stay up all night and sleep all day (don’t I wish, LOL)
Favorite color? Blue, any shade
Crayons or markers? Crayons, they’re less messy and easier to combine colors on the page
Pens or pencils? Pencils, as long as they’re mechanical. I need a nice, sharp point.

Blog Tour: Quinn Loftis ~ Just One Drop

Bewitching Book Tours is presenting this virtual book tour for Quinn Loftis!
You can see the entire tour schedule by clicking HERE.
Please be sure to check this author out!
You can buy her books by clicking HERE.

Book One: Prince of Wolves
Jacque Pierce was just an ordinary 17 year old girl getting ready to start her senior year in high school in Coldspring, Texas. When a mysterious foreign exchange student from Romania moves in across the street, Jacque and her two best friends, Sally and Jen, don't realize the last two weeks of their summer was going to get a lot more interesting. From the moment Jacque sets eyes on Fane she feels an instant connection, a pull like a moth to a flame. Little does she know that the flame she is drawn to is actually a Canis Lupus, werewolf, and she just happens to be his mate; the other half of his soul. The problem is Fane is not the only wolf in Coldspring, Texas. Just as Fane and Jacque are getting to know each other, another wolf steps out to try and claim Jacque as his mate. Fane will now have to fight for the right to complete the mating bond, something that is his right by birth but is being denied him by a crazed Alpha. Will the love Fane has for Jacque be enough to give him the strength to defeat his enemy, will Jacque accept that she is Fane's mate and complete the bond between them?

My thoughts:  I love this series!  From the very first page I was "IN" - first it was the characters, then the story.  Quinn Loftis has created characters that you want as your own friends and family.I couldn't put it down.   Although this is the first book in the series, I read it second - so I already knew I would love it.  It was fantastic to get the beginning of what I already knew to be a great read with endearing characters, a fast-paced action packed story line and just enough romance!

Book two: Blood Rites
With the challenge complete and the corrupt Alpha of Coldspring defeated Fane is now free to complete the mate bond with Jacque and perform the Blood Rites. Although the challenge is done, the affects are far reaching. Once it is known that Vasile one of the strongest Alphas in the world is in America, specifically Coldspring, TX, there is one Alpha who cannot over look the significance of this. An Alpha who happens to share Jacque's DNA, but is this the one she needs to fear?

With her mom driving and her two best friends, Jen and Sally in tow, Jacque set off for her happily ever after. She will soon realize a plan has been put in motion that will change her course and possibly tear her from Fane's grasp forever. It will take a wolf pack, her mother's love, her two best friend's unrelenting determination, her own will to survive and the undying love of her mate to bring her home. The question remains, if she fights, if she endures, who will she be, what will be left once she is back in her mates arms?

Book three: Just One Drop
Jennifer Adams, best friend to Jacque Pierce and Sally Morgan, spicy, out spoken, a little crazy and human...or so she thought. Jen has just found out that human DNA is not the only thing that resides in her veins, she happens to share that little pesky werewolf gene, although it isn't more than just a drop. Now that she and her friends are living in Romania with Fane's pack, she is also oh so conveniently stuck with the object of her affection, the fur ball Decebel. Drawn to each other by something they don't understand Jen finds herself frustrated by the lack of mating signs between her and said fur ball. Not only is she dealing with that not so un-frustrating problem, she now has been informed that because of that little drop of werewolf blood in her she is now required to attended a multi-pack gathering for un-mated wolves. This type of gathering hasn't taken place in over a century but with a shortage of females among the werewolf population the males are getting worried they won't ever find their true mates. Meanwhile Decebel struggles with the emotions he is feeling towards Jen. He tries to keep his distance but there is just something about the mouthy blonde that keeps him coming back for more of her verbal abuse that he just can't seem to get enough of...go figure.

***I have been waiting for this one since I finished Blood Rites!!!

Author Interview: Krista Holle (Lure of Shapinsay) and trailer too!

The Lure of Shapinsay by Krista Holle

Amazon Product Description:
Ever since Kait Swanney could remember, the old crones of the village have been warning her to stay away from the selkies. They claim that like sirens of old, the seal men creep from the inky waters, shed their skins, and entice women to their deaths beneath the North Sea. But avoiding an encounter becomes impossible when Kait is spotted at the water’s edge, moments after the murder of a half-selkie infant.

Kait is awoken unexpectedly by a beautiful, naked selkie man seeking revenge. After she declares her innocence, the intruder darts into the night, but not before inadvertently bewitching her with an overpowering lure.

Kait obsesses over a reunion deep beneath the bay and risks her own life to be reunited with her selkie. But when she lands the dangerous lover, the chaos that follows leaves Kait little time to wonder—is it love setting her on fire or has she simply been lured?
Welcome to The Wormhole!
It is my pleasure to feature an interview with Krista Holle!
? When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?  I’ve always enjoyed writing, but I knew I wanted to make a career out of it when I sent one of my young adult novels to a fifteen-year-old beta reader I’ve never met.   The young woman stayed up all night to read my book in one sitting because she couldn’t put it down.  Hearing this was the best feeling in the world.

? How many jobs did you have before you became a writer?  Technically two.  I waited tables through college until I became a registered nurse.  I’m still a critical care nurse, but I write every spare chance I can get.

? How long does it take you to write a book?  When I’m not promoting a book, it takes me about six months to complete a novel.  That’s writing about thirty hours a week while working a full-time job.

? What would you say is your most interesting writing quirk?  I like to write when it’s completely silent.  We’re talking tomb silent.  And please don’t let life get in the way of my writing.  What do you mean I have to make dinner?  Grrrr.

? Where do you get your ideas or inspiration for your characters?  Most of my characters come from deep inside my sick cookie brain.  The female leads do have a tiny hint of me in them.  Kait the lead in The Lure of Shapinsay has a passion for the sea.  That’s me.  In a perfect world, I’d live within a rock’s throw of the ocean.

? How do you decide what you want to write about? Honestly, I try to find things that haven’t been done to death.  I recently got the wacky idea of writing a modern version of Tarzan and Jane.

? What books have most influenced your life?  I fell in love with the romance of Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight books.  I love the magic and charm of Shannon Hale’s books.  I developed a love of historical fiction through Tracy Chevalier’s books.

? What are you reading right now?  The Hunger Games saga.

? What do you like to do when you are not writing?  There’s not much time for hobbies, but I love movies and hiking.  I’m a really good do-it-yourselfer such as tiling, dry-walling, painting ect...  I do these things because I’m a cheapskate.

? What is your favorite comfort food?  I never get tired of spaghetti with garlic bread.  There’s also “tuna on toast”.  It’s a weird tuna gravy mixture that’s eaten on biscuits.  It’s a breakfast dish by the way.

? What do you think makes a good story?  A great plot, great characters, and a heavy dose of factor X.  Nobody knows what factor X is, but if it’s missing the book will be a bomb.

Fun random questions:
  • dogs or cats? Both.
  • Coffee or tea? Water with lemon.
  • Dark or milk chocolate? Milk chocolate but only the expensive kind.
  • Rocks or flowers? Rocks.  I collect seashells.
  • Night or day? Night, but I turn into a pumpkin at midnight.
  • Favorite color? Pink.
  • Crayons or markers?  Oil paint.
  • Pens or pencils?  Pens.
