The Virtual Book Tour is being presented by Bewitching Book Tours.
You can get to the entire tour schedule by clicking HERE.
You can buy your own copy of this book HERE.
Welcome to my stop on the tour!
Today I am pleased to feature David M. Brown's
Fezariu's Epiphany!

Book Blurb:

"The White Oak, Clarendon’s oldest brothel, lured and destroyed men by the thousands. Fezariu was different. He had never been drawn by the White Oak’s vices but the brothel had still ruined him when he was just a boy.

Salvation came in the form of the Merelax Mercenaries – Elenchera’s most prestigious hired hands. They gave Fezariu the chance to escape from his past. Immersed in the world of dangerous assignments in the colonies Fezariu longed to forget everything about his childhood but only in facing the past would he

ever be free of it."

Author bio:

"David Brown was born in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, and first conceived the idea of the Elencheran Chronicles at college in 1999. He spent ten years compiling the history of Elenchera, resulting in 47,000+ years of events, 500+ maps, 2000+ pages, several short stories and many much-needed acquaintances with Jack Daniels.

David also has a blog, The World According to Dave (http://www.elenchera.com/blog), which features reviews, stories and dramatic tales of the horrors of owning cats.

David now lives in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, with his wife, Donna, and their six cats.
Fezariu's Epiphany is his first novel."

David's Twitter profile: http://www.twitter.com/elenchera
My Thoughts:
This story is remarkably well written.  The language is descriptive.  The story flows smoothly at just the right pace to keep the reader interested and awaiting what will be on the next page.
The characters have been carefully crafted and possess their own individual querks.
My heart goes out to Jessamine for the choices life gives her and bleeds for Fezariu as life continues to throw him curves.
Be sure to check this one out and journey with Fezariu as he attempts to discover his past, his present, and his future.

Blog Tour: Dark Corners by Liz Schulte

This blog tour is being presented by The Bookish Snob Promotions.

Welcome to The Wormhole! and my day on the tour!
I am pleased to bring you......Liz Schulte!
Many authors claim to have known their calling from a young age. Liz Schulte, however, didn't always want to be an author. In fact, she had no clue. Liz wanted to be a veterinarian, then she wanted to be a lawyer, then she wanted to be a criminal profiler. In a valiant effort to keep from becoming Walter Mitty, Liz put pen to paper and began writing her first novel. It was at that moment she realized this is what she was meant to do. As a scribe she could be all of those things and so much more.
When Liz isn’t writing or on social networks she is inflicting movie quotes and trivia on people, reading, traveling, and hanging out with friends and family. Liz is a Midwest girl through and through, though she would be perfectly happy never having to shovel her driveway again. She has a love for all things spooky, supernatural, and snarky. Her favorite authors range from Edgar Allen Poe to Joseph Heller to Jane Austen to Jim Butcher and everything in between.
Liz would love to hear from you and what you thought of Dark Corners.

And now...the interview you have all been waiting for:

? When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
I can't really pinpoint an exact moment I knew. I have always loved reading and making up stories, but I never even considered being a writer until one day I had this idea--rooted somewhat in reality--and I thought now that would be a book I would read.  So in complete secrecy I sat down and began writing. Now I am completely addicted.
? How many jobs did you have before you became a writer?
I have had several jobs in my lifetime, but sense college I have had three.
? How long does it take you to write a book?
It depends on the book and how much the muses are talking to me and the amount of time I have. It can be anywhere from four weeks to four months for me to write a first draft. Then, probably, another two months in editing time and a month in beta reading phase for the book to be publishing ready. I would say beginning to ending a book takes me around six months.
? What would you say is your most interesting writing quirk?
I am not sure if this is a quirk or not, but my characters and stories surprise me all the time. I will have one thing in mind for them then they go off and do something completely different that I never saw coming.  I often feel as they only give me the illusion of control as the author, and they're really the ones running the show.
? Do you have a routine that you use to get into the right frame of mind to write?
Not really. Normally, I will have the story constantly running through my head until it is on paper. Sometimes, if I hit a snag, exercise helps me clear my mind or just talking it out with someone who will ask me questions that force me to start explaining things to them will put me back into the story.
? Where do you get your ideas or inspiration for your characters?
I would say it's a mix of life and imagination. There are definitely parts of Dark Corners that are identifiable as me, but there is also a lot that has just been made up. Obviously, the things you see day to day and the interactions you have will always be an influence on your perception of life which will in turn color your writing.
? How do you decide what you want to write about?
My books are based almost solely on scenes or first lines that pop into my head. I have never sat down and thought I would like to write a book about being haunted then came up with an idea. It is more like this idea pops into my head while I am doing a mundane activity, and I let it sit for a while to see if it takes root. Once it does then I know I have found my next project.
? What books have most influenced your life?
I think the early reading I did as a kid influenced my taste in and style of books a lot.  I read all of the R.L. Stine Fear Street books, Christopher Pike, and L.J. Smith. Since then I see a very similar tastes in what I like to read. I still gravitate towards scary, paranormal, and/or mysteries. My tastes have also expanded though. Now I like to throw in some Jane Austen, Charlotte Bronte,  and Henry James.
? What is the first book you remember reading by yourself?
I am sure it was one of the books I used to make my mom read to me, but I don't really recall. As for chapter books I think it was either Babysitter's Club or Sweet Valley Twins. I don't remember which came first. I remember when I talked my mom into buying me my first Sweet Valley Twins books. I read the back and the main characters names were Elizabeth (my name) and Jessica (my best friend's name). I thought it was fate. With Babysitter's Club I was given a set of the first four books and before I knew it I was spending all of my allowance money on the books.
? What are you reading right now?
I haven't had a huge amount of time for leisurely reading lately. I have a book that was lent to me call Weird Sisters that I intend to read. I also have A Tale of Two Goblins by HP Mallory in line, and the new Dresden Files books Ghost Story (squee!).
? What do you like to do when you are not writing?
I try to spend as much time with my family and friends as I can.  I love to travel and play trivia. I also am a huge movie and tv addict.
? What is your favorite comfort food?
            Iced vanilla chai lattes. Mmmmmm
? What do you think makes a good story?
Strong, identifiable characters who are flawed. I like to read about people I feel like I could know in my life. I don't want to read about perfect people. The character is in the flaws and how they are dealt with.
? Who would you consider your favorite author and why?
Jane Austen. I have read every Jane Austen book more times than I can count. They are my go to books when I have nothing to read or don't know what I want to read. I find her style and voice comforting. It is so easy to fall into the world she created and lose myself to characters she brought to life.
? What book, if any, do you read over and over again?
If I like a book, I read it multiple times. I have read so many books repeatedly. They become like friends that I have to stop and visit every now and again.

Review: Dark Corners by Liz Schulte

Dark Cornersby Liz Schulte

***I received this book from The Bookish Snob Tours in exchange for an honest review and participation in the Blog Tour.

Amazon Product Description:
Ella Reynolds knew from the first moment she walked into the old house someone or something was watching her. Waiting. Her husband's violent murder sent her spiraling into a world of grief and isolation, but Ella isn't alone. Who or what is responsible for her husband's death is still with her. Darkness has engulfed the past year of Ella's life. Everyday reality slips a little more between her fingers as she struggles to break free from her memories. She must look deeper into her past as well as the present to discover truth of her husband's homicide. A string of uncanny events takes place and practical explanations run thin as Ella follows the terrifying road to closure. As the past and present come to a head, Ella must decipher who or what the murderer is before it takes her as well.

My thoughts:
I have to start this review with:  I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK!
Dark Corners is brilliantly written.  Liz Schulte is obviously a very talented writer.
I was captured by the prologue and didn't put the book down until I was finished.
The writing is visually descriptive.  It's vivid, detailed, and concise.  This story reads so smoothly that it was as if I was hearing it played out instead of reading words.  You literally "feel" the emotional turmoil that is Ella's life.
When I got to the bar scene I laughed out loud.  After 20+ years working as a bartender, I was thrilled to see such a genuine bar scene and she captured it so perfectly!
The world that she has built for her story is realistic and her characters are so lifelike that they are easy to invest in.  Ella's experiences with the people in her town, the police, her so called friends, and her horrid doctor became personal; it was like I knew her!
The story is filled with mystery and intrigue.  I was on the edge of my seat many times, wondering what was coming next!  You will have to read it to find out more!!!

Review: Steam and Sorcery by Cindy Spencer Pape

Steam and Sorcery by Cindy Spencer Pape

*NetGalley book

NetGalley Marketing Copy:

Sir Merrick Hadrian hunts monsters, both human and supernatural. A Knight of the Order of the Round Table, his use of magick and the technologies of steam power have made him both respected and feared. But his considerable skills are useless in the face of his greatest challenge, guardianship of five unusual children. At a loss, Merrick enlists the aid of a governess.
Miss Caroline Bristol is reluctant to work for a bachelor but she needs a position, and these former street children touch her heart. While she tends to break any mechanical device she touches, it never occurs to her that she might be something more than human. All she knows is that Merrick is the most dangerously attractive man she's ever met-and out of reach for a mere governess.
When conspiracy threatens to blur the distinction between humans and monsters, Caroline and Merrick must join forces, and the fate of humanity hinges upon their combined skills of steam and sorcery...

My thoughts:
I enjoyed this story very much.  I have come to love steampunk and this is a fabulous example of genre.  The characters are delightful!  Well developed, interesting, and lovable.  The author has done a fantastic job of disarming the reader and depositing the children directly in your heart.  Sir Merrick is a treat and Miss Caroline Bristol is wonderful.  The unexpected romance is an added bonus.  Social class be damned!
The story flows smoothly and is filled with gripping intrigue, unusual adventures, and monsters.  It is clever, creative, and well written.  Well worth a read!

I hope you enjoy this feature:
a book excerpt for your reading pleasure!

From Chapter One:
"How long has it been, Amara?" my girlfriend Stacey asked.  Then she continued without waiting for a reply. "Let's see...the last man I heard about wanted to be your maintenance man while keeping his main squeeze. What was his name?"
"Adrian, I think..." Nicole chimed in waggling her eyebrows. "And you know everybody needs a maintenance man... to you know... maintain certain areas."
Chuckling along with the rest of my friends, I looked around my living room at them.  All four of them were in relationships, save me. It ad been four years since I'd been with Adrian, since he'd gotten married.
I looked around my living room at my four girl friends. We had all been friends it seemed like forever but in reality, it had only been six years. They were all the sisters I never knew I wanted and never had until now.
We had all worked together in one capacity or another. There were many friends I would say were associates or friend, the term used loosely. These girls, though, I loved.
There was Nicole aka Nikki, the party planner. The very one that had planned this little girls night we sometimes had on Sunday nights at my cozy two-story Tudor house not far from downtown Mountain View, an hour south of San Francisco. Nikki was the youngest of my friends. She was half white, half Mexican, 26 years old, tan, shorter than five feet tall, and a brunette, usually.
Then there was Vanessa aka Nessa. Nessa was brown skinned, 28, big brown eyes, with a mischievous sense of humor. She was also the whitest black girl I had ever known.
Then Stacey, the red headed, stubborn, "I ain't taking no shit off nobody" kinda girl. She was 40 and a long way away from mellowing out.
Last but not least was Charlene aka Charlie. Charlie was the quick-witted, 30-year-old, strawberry blond shit talker.
I felt my face heat up at the mention of Adrian as I gathered the dishes off the table and took them into the kitchen. I grabbed the strawberry cheesecake. On my way back I passed by the floor-to-ceiling hallway mirror and paused. My cheeks were flaming from all the talk about Adrian. My skin was naturally all peaches. I had long dark brown wavy hair, hazel eyes, petite nose, and a full lush mouth. I was cute and curvy. I could admit that to myself.
After four years of being single, I had trouble explaining to myself why me, 35-year-old Amara Simmons, why I was still alone. Except that Adrian had burned me bad.
"Mmmmmm," Nessa hummed as she bit into the strawberry cheesecake I had served. "I swear I don't understand why you're still single." I shrugged.
She continued. "I mean your're gorgeous, small waist, full breasted, phat ass: for a white girl. And...you can cook. Hell, I'd marry you simply so I can have cheesecake!"
Amid a chorus of laughter and the clink of wine glasses lifted in agreement with Nessa's statement echoing my own thoughts, I offered a suggestion. "I simply haven't met the right one."
