Review: The Vampire Voss by Colleen Gleason

The Vampire Voss by Colleen Gleason

Amazon Product Description:
Voss, also known as Viscount Dewhurst, relishes the sensual pleasures immortality affords. A member of the Dracule—a cabal of powerful, secretive noblemen marked with a talisman that reveals their bartered souls—the mercenary Voss has remained carefully neutral…until Angelica.
Angelica Woodmore possesses the Sight, an ability invaluable to both sides of a looming war among the Dracule. Her very scent envelops Voss in a scarlet fog of hunger—for her body and her blood. But he is utterly unprepared for the new desire that overcomes him—to protect her.
Now Voss must battle his very nature to be with Angelica…but this vampire never backs down from a fight.

I got this as an ARC from Netgalley.com -

My thoughts:
I LOVED these Characters!  I can't say enough about the author's ability to create incredible characters.  Voss of course is my favorite - who could read this story and not walk away absolutely in love with Voss.  Angelica is the perfect match!  Her personality is fantastic, her spunky attitude is great.  There are so many characters that seem to play small parts, but as the story progresses they become more.

The setting is ideal! Jane Austen meets Bram Stoker!  I enjoyed the chaperones and social engagements of the time.  The fashions and trends were fun considering how important appearance is to Voss.

I found myself not wanting to put the story down.  I was so into the lives of the characters that I just had to know what was going to happen next.

This is not your average hot, fast romance story - - - it is a wonderfully thought out, beautifully written story of life, love, the differences between people, the journey to happiness, and the chance to be the person you choose to be.

Review: Gunnar - Hurricane Horse by Judy Andrekson

Gunnar: Hurricane Horse by Judy Andrekson

Amazon Product Description:
Each book in the True Horse Stories focuses on a contemporary horse from a different part of the world, and each animal is, in his or her own way, a hero.

PBJ Decks Smokin Gun (Gunner) is an American Paint Horse, one of the many of Heather Lott Goodwin's herd, and a valuable show animal that won the World Championship Paint Horse title. When Hurricane Katrina passed over the Goodwin property, it took with it the fences, the cattle, and several horses. Heather and her family lived in their horse trailer for six weeks and considered themselves lucky to have safe, comfortable shelter. After the storm, they searched for the animals and recovered many of them. But three months passed before they located Gunner, a hundred miles away. They were told he was in terrible shape and should be put down. Nevertheless, Heather drove on washed-out roads to bring him home, starving, dehydrated, and blind in one eye. With the help of a vet and her mother, she nursed him back to health. Amazingly, nine months later, he was well enough to compete again in the World Championship Paint Horse Show. Gunner's story is a testament to love and to determination.

My thoughts:
I wasn't ready for this book - I thought that this would be a light, fast read.  This idea was reinforced by the illustrations and the short length of the book.  I enjoyed the story very much.  I found the descriptions of the world of training and showing horses to be accurate and interesting without getting too involved.  I found myself laughing and crying.  I had no idea that the story would take ahold of my heart the way it did.  I was not prepared for the end of the story and the dedication.  It's a great read - be ready with the tissue.

Question for this week:
"Who's your all-time favorite book villain?"
This was a tough one - thought about for a long time - the very idea of having a favorite villain is strange to me.  Really, isn't the premise behind a great villain that you don't like them? So I struggled to think of ONE "favorite" and came up with

Pennywise the clown from Stephen King's IT.
He is truly awful and I love that story.  Although I waver between The Dark Half and It as my all time favorite King reads.

Here is the link to the list of blogs who are hopping this week!  Have a great weekend!
