For the status bars on the challenges, I use this site, http://www.languageisavirus.com/nanowrimo/word-meter.html# it is free. In the top box put what book # you are on, next change 50000 to your goal, click on pick a color to change color, then hit calculate and it will give you a box to copy. I paste the text into the caption part under the button. You just need to change the word "words" into books in the text.
As for the buttons, that one was made for me, but I am teaching myself to make them in adobe photoshop. It is usually trial and error, I can't explain how to do it, yet. I hope this helps.
