Book Release - Untimed by Andy Gavin

Welcome to The Wormhole!
I am pleased to announce a new book by Andy Gavin!

Untimed by Andy Gavin
About the book:

Charlie’s the kind of boy that no one notices. Hell, even his own mother can’t remember his name. And girls? The invisible man gets more dates.
As if that weren’t enough, when a mysterious clockwork man tries to kill him in modern day Philadelphia, and they tumble through a hole into 1725 London, Charlie realizes even the laws of time don’t take him seriously.
Still, this isn’t all bad. In fact, there’s this girl, another time traveler, who not only remembers his name, but might even like him! Unfortunately, Yvaine carries more than her share of baggage: like a baby boy and at least two ex-boyfriends! One’s famous, the other’s murderous, and Charlie doesn’t know who is the bigger problem.
When one kills the other — and the other is nineteen year-old Ben Franklin — things get really crazy. Can their relationship survive? Can the future? Charlie and Yvaine are time travelers, they can fix this — theoretically — but the rules are complicated and the stakes are history as we know it.
And there's one more wrinkle: he can only travel into the past, and she can only travel into the future!

Review: Luca's Magic Embrace by Kym Grosso

Luca's Magic Embrace: Immortals of New Orleans Book 2
by Kym Grosso

An erotic paranormal romance...
Sexy vampire, Luca Macquarie doesn't do love; especially not with humans. Yet, ever since he rescued Samantha Irving, he can't deny the enigmatic attraction he's developed for the alluring mortal woman. Concerned for her safety, he's determined to bring Samantha back to her coven. His mission is to go find the novice witch and bring her home, nothing more, nothing less; falling for her is not supposed to be part of the plan.

Samantha doesn't want to be a witch, yet that's exactly what she is. After failing to elicit her magic, she escapes to the mountains in an attempt to resume a semblance of her previous human life. When an arsonist torches her cabin, Samantha's worst fears are realized. Aware that her life is on the line, she reluctantly agrees to return to New Orleans with Luca.

In the Big Easy, Samantha and Luca embark on a spellbinding journey, searching for a mystical amulet that promises to release her obligation from an ancient, lethal vampire who's been threatening her life. With cryptic clues and clandestine allies, will Luca and Samantha destroy the dangerous amulet before others acquire it, setting forth a chain of catastrophic consequences? And will Luca give into his erotic desire for the witch who magically captures heart?

Warning:  This book contains several love scenes and is intended for adult readers.

My thoughts:
I loved Kade's Dark Embrace, which is book one of the Immortals of New Orleans by Kym Grosso so when I had the opportunity to read and review book two (I had been hoping it would be Luca's story!) I jumped at the chance.

I was as happy with book two as I was with book one.  The characters are fantastic.   I was excited to see that this story more or less picks up where book one ended, bringing the characters I loved from Kade's story into Luca's while adding new ones.  All the men are larger than life; all are willing to do whatever it takes to protect, save, get, have or keep whatever it is that they want or feel is theirs.  All the women are either strong, independent and powerful in their own right - or become so during the story.  It's as if Kym Grosso has created a range of characters in which everyone can see a bit of themselves or who they wanted to be, and a bit of the partner they have always searched for.

The world Kym Grosso has created is realistic and believable.  She has set her characters in New Orleans, which is perfect for supernaturals.  It is easy to see the beautiful, powerful vampires and others living in the Garden District in mansions supported by their immortality and the wealth they attain.  You can picture them with the moss draped trees and mystery and mystique that seems to go hand in hand with New Orleans.

The story is filled with steamy hot romance, powerful magic, betrayal, desire, deception, mystery, danger and love.  (For adult readers only).

The ending is a cliffhanger - but by the time you get to the ending, you are hoping for a glimpse into what book will be next because you don't want to leave the characters and the story behind.  Well worth the read - CANNOT wait for the next book.

(I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review).

Blog Tour: The Blood Bar Chronicles: The Protectors Book 2 (Giveaway)

This virtual book tour is presented by Bewitching Book Tours.
Click HERE for more tour information.
Welcome to The Wormhole and my stop on the tour.
It is my pleasure to feature:
The Blood Bar Chronicles: The Protectors Book 2
and a guest post from author Xandra James.

Thanks for having me here today!

My childhood has had a great effect on my writing. My grandmother was said to be psychic and there was always a healthy appreciation of the unexplained in my house. At least from my mum – she was always encouraging me to think outside the box. Books surrounded me and I was always encouraged to use my very vivid, and sometimes strange, imagination, LOL.

So, I'm pretty sure I was meant to be writing in the paranormal genre too, even if I only realized it a couple of years ago. Romance is a given for me as I've always loved a happy ending and I'm a soft touch for the L word ;). But paranormal romance was a surprise when it crept up on me. I never realized how much I would enjoy encouraging my creative juices to go to places I'd never considered before – and seemingly the world (and beyond) was no limit. It's strange how, when you look back at your life, you see all the little pathways that have brought you to this point, right at this moment.

I'm a great believer in everything happening for a purpose. I've pretty much lived my life to this so I'm pretty sure that all that reading of paranormal books in my youth, reading about different, mythical figures and their worlds, have helped me to write these heroes (and heroines) that bring my paranormal romances to life.
With Protecting His Own, I wanted to explore a completely different type of paranormal hero. I'm written about demons, Shadow's and a plain old human who falls in love with a succubus, but a gargoyle? No!

I love a challenge. And when Sam started to talk to me about his past and what he was capable of, I was hooked. I really had to search hard for a heroine that would torture him enough and, obviously, be perfect for him too. Nina is a little damaged around the edges but all she really wants is to feel again.

I hope you love the characters as much as I did. And know that I'll be using that vivid imagination to write more paranormal stories in the future ;)

About the Author:
Multi-published author, Xandra James, has always wanted to write romance books. Even when she was sneaking peaks at the hot bits, too young to fully appreciate them, she dreamt of writing her own.
Now, older and wiser, she's got the opportunity to project her slightly dark and wacky, British sense of humour onto others, whilst still writing the hot bits - bonus!

When not writing, Xandra is thinking of excuses as to why she shouldn't be doing the housework, looking after a husband and cats that refuse to pick up after themselves and climbing the mountain in her house that's affectionately called her tbr pile.

She currently holds the crown for Queen Procrastinator – something she's very proud of – so you can usually find her online, somewhere, when she really should be writing.

(Book Three of the Mindjack Trilogy) Now Available!
When your mind is a weapon, freedom comes at a price.
Four months have passed since Kira left home to join Julian’s Jacker Freedom Alliance, but the hole in her heart still whistles empty where her boyfriend Raf used to be. She fills it with weapons training, JFA patrols, and an obsessive hunt for FBI agent Kestrel, ignoring Julian’s worries about her safety and repeated attempts to recruit her for his revolutionary chat-casts. When anti-jacker politician Vellus surrounds Jackertown with the National Guard, Kira discovers there’s more to Julian’s concerns than she knew, but she’s forced to take on a mission that neither want and that might be her last: assassinating Senator Vellus before he can snuff out Julian’s revolution and the jackers she’s come to love.

Early Praise for Free Souls
“Quinn paints a picture of a not-too-distant America where politicians inflame the hatred of one section of the populace for another—all for their own gain—and you worry that her world is not so far off from our own.”
— Dianne Salerni, author of We Hear the Dead, The Caged Graves, and the forthcoming The Eighth Day
"Free Souls starts with a bang and doesn't let up. Like a mash-up of all your favorite science-fiction adventures from Star Wars to The Legend of Korra, it blends nonstop action, nail-biting escapes, and great romance. I absolutely loved it! A great series conclusion—a must-read."
— Leigh Talbert Moore, author of Rouge and The Truth About Faking
“Susan did it again. Free Souls was WOW! I expected Kira to step up to her role as heroine but not like this. Surprises kept coming until the very end which tied up more loose ends than I knew existed. Warning: Don't start reading until you have time to finish. I didn't want to put Free Souls down for a second. It's that kind of book.”
— Sher A. Hart, Goodreads Review

Welcome to The Wormhole and my day on the tour.
It is my pleasure to feature Marsha A. Moore and Lost Volumes: Enchanted Bookstore Legend Three.
Marsha has joined us for an interview!
? How long does it take you to write a book?

It takes about two months for me to write a clean first draft. Then I allow about two more months for revisions with beta readers and my editor.

? What would you say is your most interesting writing quirk?

I enjoy writing at the beach or outside in the lanai. I can focus better with the sounds of nature around me.  I’m glad we live in Tampa, so I can take advantage of that year round.

? Do you have a routine that you use to get into the right frame of mind to write?

Through the years, I’ve varied my routine a lot. During my first couple of books, I wrote more methodically as part of my normal day. It was a good technique to develop discipline and keep my mind focused on writing. When I began my fourth book, I changed to writing in concentrated periods, usually making writing my main event for several weeks. My novels are written over 3-4 of those concentrated sessions. I’ve found my writing is best when I submerge in my story and live with my characters. It’s definitely more fun to spend a week playing “Let’s Pretend” in my elaborate imaginary worlds than grinding out a couple of pages per day. I always look forward to my writing “vacations,” and eagerly clear out the household chores. In fact, my house is about to get cleaned in a quick way since I feel the need to spend a week writing. That writer’s muse can’t be denied!

? Where do you get your ideas or inspiration for your characters?

Reality always forms the framework of how my characters interact in my stories. Actually, since this is a five-part series and I’m currently writing book four of five, the more I look at this story, the more of myself I see. My heroine, Lyra, is very much connected to me. Even in the first chapter of the first book, the childhood memories brought to her mind by Cullen’s magical tea are actually all mine. How Lyra interacts with her Aunt Jean has been a way for me to work through my own issues with my mother’s failing health. Some scenes intentionally connect to my own experiences, like those, and others surprise me much later when I’m polishing my draft to send to my editor. I shake my head and hope no one other than my crit partners can identify the similarities.

? How do you decide what you want to write about?

I’m influenced by all sorts of things I encounter—nature, movies, books, art. I mentally tuck away impressions that captivate me and assemble a collection into a setting or group of characters that I want to spend time with.

My Enchanted Bookstore Legends are basically a fantasy lover’s dream, being able to step into a favorite book as a character. I know my initial inspiration came after watching the recent Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland movie. From that, I wanted to work with parallel worlds and have a heroine who must save the fantasy world from danger.

I envisioned a series with the magical complexities of the Harry Potter world, but for grown-ups, with characters who faced more complicated life issues. I had strong opinions about choosing my heroine’s age. I wanted her to have experienced enough hard times to be able to truly appreciate true love, honor, courage, fairness, all that is good. In this way, she can truly commit to whatever obstacles lie in the path to happiness. She knows herself and is determined. As the series progresses, I admire her strength.

? What books have most influenced your life?

I loved Gulliver’s Travels by Jonathan Swift. The symbolism is amazing; the more you read, the more layers you find. Inspired by that, I like to hide things in my stories.

From the present, picking one book is too hard. The Harry Potter series is one of my all-time favorites. Again, the layering of hidden plots, which spin to completion later in the series, really captures my imagination. The last few books that really pulled me in were Natasha Mostert’s Season of the Witch and Erin Morgenstern’s Night Circus. In both of those, magic caused mental effects for both the giver and receiver. I enjoy the complexity of that theme and employ it myself in a very different way. My heroine, Lyra, must learn to mentally control her vast inherited powers as the new Scribe. That is something she struggles to master through the series.

I love Sarah Addison Allen’s magical realism. She’s one of my favorite authors.  The way her characters spring off the page while the magical elements seem so natural really influences me.

? What are you reading right now?

I’m currently reading The White Forest by Adam McOmber, Peace is in Every Step by Thich Nhat Hanh, and Quiet Mind by David Kundtz. I almost always read some fiction and non-fiction simultaneously.

? What do you like to do when you are not writing?

I like to balance my quiet writing time with exercise and spiritual growth. I’m a yoga addict and am enrolled to begin teacher training for all of next year. Every week, I also make time to bike and kayak. These activities keep my mind clear to encourage my imagination for writing.

? What is your favorite comfort food?

I love potatoes and am always looking for a new way to prepare them. My latest passion is a roast potato recipe that makes them crispy and golden on the outside and moist inside. Yum!

? What do you think makes a good story?

I love a setting that tempts me to visit with colorful visual details. Also, characters I can root for are important. They need to seem real, with quirks or weaknesses that work against them. I also like a complicated plot. There needs to be some action taking place to balance character introspection.

Fun random questions:
·        Coffee or tea? tea
·        Dark or milk chocolate? Dark chocolate
·        Rocks or flowers? Flowers
·        Night or day? My favorite time of day is dusk.
·        Favorite color? green and purple

Lost Volumes: Enchanted Bookstore Legend Three by Marsha A. Moore
Genre: Fantasy romance
Release date: October 30, 2012

Description:
When Lyra McCauley learns residents of Dragonspeir’s Alliance are suffering with a deadly plague, she doesn’t heed the warnings of her fiancé, wizard Cullen Drake, to remain safe in her human world. After all, she’s the present Scribe—one of five strong women in her ancestry who possessed unique magic, each destined to protect the Alliance against the evil Black Dragon of the Dark Realm. With Cullen dependent upon Alliance power to maintain his immortality, the stakes are doubled for Lyra.
She leaves her college teaching and puts herself at risk for the community afflicted by black magic. To find a cure, she and Cullen travel into the vile, lawless underworld of Terza to strike a bargain with an expert. Their efforts further enrage the Black Dragon, vowing to decimate the Alliance and avenge the murder of his heir.
Lyra must secure the three lost volumes of the Book of Dragonspeir. Written by the three earliest Scribes, each book contains energy. Possession of the entire set will enable overthrow of the Dark Realm. Following clues into dangerous lands, Lyra and Cullen seek those volumes. His assistants, Kenzo the tiger owl and Noba the pseudodragon, prove invaluable aids. Only if they succeed, will the Alliance be safe and Lyra reach closer to the immortality she needs to live a life with Cullen.

The Enchanted Bookstore Legends are about Lyra McCauley, a woman destined to become one of five strong women in her family who possess unique magical abilities and serve as Scribes in Dragonspeir. The Scribes span a long history, dating from 1200 to present day. Each Scribe is expected to journey through Dragonspeir, both the good and evil factions, then draft a written account. Each book contains magic with vast implications.
Lyra was first introduced to Dragonspeir as a young girl, when she met the high sorcerer, Cullen Drake, through a gift of one of those enchanted books. Using its magic, he escorted her into the parallel world of Dragonspeir. Years later, she lost that volume and forgot the world and Cullen. These legends begin where he finds her again—she is thirty-five, standing in his enchanted bookstore, and Dragonspeir needs her.
When Lyra reopens that enchanted book, she confronts a series of quests where she is expected to save the good Alliance from destruction by the evil Black Dragon. While learning about her role, Lyra and Cullen fall in love. He is 220 years old and kept alive by Dragonspeir magic. Cullen will die if Dragonspeir is taken over by the evil faction…Lyra becomes the Scribe.

My thoughts:
Don't miss out on this series!  Wonderful characters, creative and interesting worlds and action will keep you turning the pages as you live the stories written by this fabulous author.
